April 2018 - Newsletter

There are a lot of exciting things happening in Kittanning.  We're committed to helping make the area a better place to live & work, and we encourage you to get involved. We have our marquee events coming up and many important decisions to make, so we welcome your participation.

2018 Event Schedule

Wine Walk - June 29th - 6pm
Ales on the Allegheny - October 12th- 5pm
Light-Up Kittanning Night - November 16th - 6pm

Wine Walk - Important Information:

We're still looking for businesses to host wineries for the Wine Walk on June 29th. If you have the space for setting up a table for a winery to be in your business, and you’re a member of DKI (or would like to become a member), then please let us know as soon as possible.

We also talked about cutting off tickets at 1,000 to make sure we can handle the crowds. The initial interest has been very high!

 Meeting Re-cap

The Gibson’s from Radioactive were here to present to us an idea.

We discussed the future of Movies in the Park. The movies' costs continue to go up and up. We talked about making it into a one night a year event or potentially passing it on to another group to organize it. The one brought up was Arts on the Allegheny.

Shannon and Ray want to pass on the Beer Fest to someone else to run. We could split the profits with maybe a Fire Company or another organization. We also talked about the possibility of hiring an event planner to help coordinate these events in the future.

We talked about having meter bags available for free parking days. Could DKIbuy the bags to put over the meters? We also mentioned doing ‘Taste of Armstrong County’ event. It would be a nice event to do in Downtown Kittanning. Gathering up restaurants to make it happen.

We're seeking interesting in doing a "1727" community flag - we'll be sending an email to gauge demand from local businesses.

Kittanning Borough - Scott Davis told us that the Borough Manager position was approved, and they will begin the application process on 4-16-18. They also have made some progress on codes. There is third party coming in to help with citations and codes enforcement. They have been officially hired and they will be starting work soon. DKI is having a very important role in advocating for change at the local level, another reason for you to get involved.

Reminder the next meeting is scheduled for Friday May 11th at 8am.

Action Items:

  • The Craft Beer Event is in jeopardy, if we can't find a solution for managing it. If you have any ideas or want to get involved, let us know ASAP.

  • A similar decision will need to be made on Movies in the Park.

  • Contact Rey if you're interested in participating in the Wine Walk.

  • 2018 Dues are Due!

  • If you know a business who would like to join - please share this link with them.
